Helping Aunt Dot

While Dot was visiting, we had a lot of fun. Here Dot is having the kids help her make rice krispy smores! They were so good! While Dot was up, we also simply visited, made journals, played munchkin fu (or lovingly known as kong fuy!), played phase 10, and also played lots of boom blox! Thanks Lorna for interducing us to that game. They even helped me snap beans one afternoon! We can't wait until they move home!

Karla and Kylee visit the dentist

We went to the dentist for the first time. Because I wasn't sure what to expect: Karla went first and then I took Kylee back another day. They both did great--that our next appointment is back to back. But they all have clean teeth and are looking good. Here is Karla at the dentist. I'm afriad the camera got left at home when Kylee went--sorry Kylee. But at this age, going to the dentist was very exciting and we had a lot of fun. They were both very good listeners and very brave.

Let Us Be Men

Todd's overtime has been cut completly. And we are no longer making ends meet. So Todd starts at McDonalds on Monday. He has asked that he work a minimum of 20 hours. In looking at things, and after talking things over with Brother Hazel, he has decided he needs to go back to school to be able to support his family. So last week we went down to CBC (also known as tumble weed tech) and applied. He has been accepted and starts on September 21. The game plan is 3 quarters of prerequisits and then he will start the rad tech program to become an x-ray tech. The program is two years. He would then have his AA and would be able to start working in that field. We still have to be accepted to the program, and we need to talk with the school counsolor after taking a placement test to make sure he doesn't need to take extra core classes. But we are hopeful that the Lord will bless us. He always has.

4th of July thoughts

My mom served her mission in Thailand--at a time when they were at war. Many people asked my Grandpa how he could send his daughter there. He replyed that it was her other Father who was sending her. I am sure that took a lot of faith. She has talked about laying at night and listening to the bombs and cannons going off at night--over the border that wasn't that far from her apartment. She would watch in the morning and make sure the flag still flew over the US Embassy. As long as she saw the flag, she knew she was safe. She has told us how grateful we should be to live in this country--and to never have seen war here. I am grateful. It makes me sad to see the things this country stood for being attacked from the inside. I am grateful for those who fought to make this country free and those who still fight to keep it free. In our family we salute Todd's sister's husband, Rich Vance, who is currently in the Air Force. And our veterans: Grandpa Tingey, Grandpa Nef, and Grandpa Cook.
