Bugs and Little girls

So this is out of order--but it is to funny to not write down while it is fresh in my mind. This morning we went and picked peaches. This thanks to a wonderful friend who had the courage to ask a stranger if they would mind if we picked the peaches that looked like they were going to go to waste. She finds fruit for us to glean, and I teach her how to can it--that's our deal!! I love it.
On the way home, we were hurrying as Kylee is squeeling in the back seat about needing a toilet. Then she sees the bug. "BUG! BUG! BUG MOMMA." I roll down her window thinking the bee or the fly can fly away. "IT'S AN ANT MOMMA. IT CAN'T FLY." So I ask "is it red or black?" "It's black" she whimpered. "It won't hurt you" I attempt to sooth her. "but you can scoop it up and throw it out the window."
So what does she do? Throw her whole cup out the window! Then she starts wailing!! "Mom. My cup. My cup." I don't know why dad bought my 5 year old a sippy cup, but Kylee has LOVED it.
"Mom, go back and get my cup." This is at the intersection of Yellowstone and Edison right off the freeway for those of you who know the area: not a quiet road for those of you who don't. So we go two blocks before I can get over and turn around. Wait at two lights. Pull off to the side of the road with strick instructions to stay in your seat belt and call Dad if anything goes wrong. I run back to the intersection and wait until the light changes (It felt like a good 10 minutes!!) I watch one car run over the cup while I waited. I run into the intersection and back without incident once the light changed. But by then it is sadly never going to hold liquid again. And my poor Kylee. "I should of just smashed the ant with my cup. I lost my cup like Karla lost her pony (which Karla threw out of the window 2 years ago on the highway just one exit closer to Richland.)" "I loved that it had flowers mom. And it's purple. And I don't spill my drink!" Crying the whole time.
Mean while, I'm racing home so I don't have to also clean up the mess of her not making it to the restroom in time. Thank goodnes--we made it! And now, two hours later, she is happily playing again. Lunch helped a lot. But she probably cried a good 30 minutes. Fun day!
Tomarrow, we are canning peaches. I enjoy peaches, but they are Todd's absolute favorite. He even called his mom "Mom can I just tell you how wonderful my wife is? I am eating fresh peaches just picked, still warm, covered in milk." I love my husband. He loves peaches. And dispite our crazy life (and me realizing we may not can this summer) I am canning peaches as a result. I am so excited we were able to get them. Thanks Bobbiejo!!
