History of why we have named our kids what we have named them.

In the past, we have waited to meet our children to pick what name to give them.  We had our approved list--names we both likes and what middle name we thought we'd put with what first name.  But we haven't decided until we met our newest addition.  Karla being the oldest and a girl seemed ... well I'm the oldest in my family.  And I happen to be a girl.  Guess what Todd's mom is the first born in her family too.  And she happens to be a girl.  And my mom is the first born in her family--and a girl!!  It seems like we can go back one more generation, but I'm not sure which way.  So it seemed appropriate to name her after Todd's mom.  He said he wanted to name of our girls after his mother.  It seemed appropiate to give Karla this name with this heritage.  Colleen is after both me and my grandma.
Kylee was almost Kaylyn.  But we wanted to give her a strong name so that she wouldn't live in the shadow of her sister.  We felt that Kylee was a strong name.  She has lived up to it and then some!!  We then gave her a middle name after her aunt Lorna.  They share the middle name of Jasel.  And Kylee Jasel is our princess.  She fits her name very well.  Although I could have probably named her after her granny Lucy and it would have fit too. :)
Kaylyn named herself.  Have you ever had a child that just very obviously was suppose to be named something.  It was a strong prompting I guess you could say--if you've never experienced it for yourself.  Kaylyn and I argued.  I wanted to get out of the K's.  I wanted to name her Joslyn.  But she was our Kaylyn--and it stuck.  Her middle name is Ruth.  Ruth is after Todd's grandpa's step mom.  But it was more than that for us.  Todd and my marriage was rough at the beginning.  After Kylee I was not going to bring more children into a marriage I was unsure was going to last.  Before we had Kaylyn, I knew that for better or worse Todd and I were going to stick it out.  Things have gotten a lot better since then.  But Kaylyn Ruth is named after Ruth from the bible.  Because where Todd goes I go.
We tossed a lot of names around for Kolten.  And in the end, Todd named him.  He said it just seems to fit.  And so Kolten it was.  There was no doubt in my mind who's name we would give Todd's first son.  He was very close to his Grandpa Darrell Nef.  When life was tough Todd would take off and go visit his grandpa.  Of all the men that has walked this earth in Todd's lifetime--it's his grandpa that he most admires and respects.  And his Grandpa loved him unconditionally.  Kolten shares his middle name: Darrell.
